Simkhat Torah is very special at JFC
Music was provided this year by our Cantorial Soloist Sheera Ben-David and by our cantorial soloist substitute Jason Breslin.
The whole Czech scroll was opened up around the kids who sat in the middle, and Rabbi Freedman walked its length, reading bits and pieces for us. Sam Breslin was on hand to chant from his Bar Mitzvah portion, too.
After that, the rabbi brought all the new students of our Religious School up to stand under her tallit to receive a blessing upon their entry into Jewish studies, the text of which is what Sam chanted, the "priestly benediction". The new students also each received a little Torah scroll of their own to celebrate the occasion.
